Most patients arrive asking which brand is better. Each brand is a family of hyaluronic acid gels built for different depths and different jobs, and the FDA approved specific products within each family for the lips, the cheeks and the hollows under the eyes, so the useful question is which gel suits the spot. At 4Ever Young the injector picks product by product, and a single face can carry a Restylane gel in one place and a Juvederm gel in another.
Juvederm vs Restylane verdict by treatment area
Settle Juvederm vs Restylane one area at a time. For lips, the verdict follows the look you want: soft from Juvederm, defined at the border from Restylane Kysse. For cheeks, Juvederm Voluma carries the longest published duration of any product in either family. For under eyes, both families now hold a specific FDA approval, and Restylane Eyelight carries the larger trial behind it.
Neither brand wins the whole face. The same medical team injects Juvederm filler at 4Ever Young and Restylane filler at 4Ever Young, and most consultations end with a product chosen for each area.

How Juvederm & Restylane compare side by side
The difference between Juvederm and Restylane is manufacturing, and it shows up as texture. Both start with hyaluronic acid produced by bacterial fermentation and cross-linked so the gel survives in the skin for months. How that cross-linking is done decides whether a gel is smooth or particulate, firm or flexible, and where it belongs. The Juvederm side of that story gets a full treatment in Juvederm benefits, cost & results.
Gel texture & how each filler moves
Injectors talk about rheology, the study of how a gel deforms under stress. Two properties matter most. Viscoelasticity is a gel’s resistance to being pushed and stretched. Cohesivity is its tendency to hold together once placed. Together they set how a filler lifts, how it integrates into tissue and how far it travels from the needle.
Restylane’s classic gels, including Restylane and Lyft, come from a particle-based process that leaves them firm, with measured strength of 701 and 799 pascals in a 2024 rheology study, so they hold a shape and stay close to where they are placed. A newer line, which includes Kysse, Refyne and Defyne, measured between 70 and 271 pascals with far more tolerance for stretching, which is why it flexes with movement. On the Juvederm side the gels are smooth and cohesive, so they spread evenly and feel soft. Firm gels suit structure, smooth gels suit blending, and flexible gels suit areas that move all day.
Restylane Kysse vs Juvederm for lips
Restylane kysse won FDA approval on March 26, 2020 for lip augmentation and the fine lines above the lip in adults over 21. In its pivotal trial it matched a hyaluronic acid comparator for lip fullness at week 8 while using about 20 percent less gel, and the improvement was still present at week 48. Because the gel flexes, the lip keeps a natural border through speech and expression.
Volbella XC is the Juvederm lip gel, approved May 31, 2016 for the lips and perioral lines. On the Restylane vs Juvederm lips question, Kysse reaches a defined edge with less product and Volbella gives the softer, plumper read.
Juvederm Voluma vs Restylane Lyft for cheeks
Cheek augmentation got its first hyaluronic acid filler on October 22, 2013, when the FDA approved Juvederm voluma XC for age-related volume loss in the midface in adults over 21. Its pivotal study treated 235 patients. Of those, 85.6 percent improved at six months, and nearly half held their correction for 24 months. A follow-up analysis of the same trial measured 15 to 24 months of correction by cheek region from a median of about 2.0 mL, and the FDA added a chin indication in June 2020.
Restylane lyft followed on July 1, 2015 with approval for cheek augmentation and midface contour deficiencies, on top of its nasolabial fold indication, and added the back of the hands in May 2018. It measured as the firmest of the seven Restylane gels in a 2024 rheology study, built for lift and projection. Both go deep, down to the bone, where firmness is an asset.
Juvederm under eyes vs Restylane
For Juvederm under eyes, the product is Volbella XC, which the FDA approved for infraorbital hollowing on May 28, 2021 in adults over 21. That gel is 15 mg/mL hyaluronic acid with 0.3 percent lidocaine. Patients in the study needed one or two treatments, and a follow-up analysis of 135 participants found satisfaction holding at 12 months.
Restylane Eyelight earned the same indication on May 8, 2023. Its 333-patient trial recorded an 87.4 percent responder rate at three months against 17.7 percent for untreated controls, with 63.5 percent still responding at 12 months and typically mild side effects in 12.7 percent of patients.
Under the eye, where skin is thinnest and every bit of swelling shows, the choice usually follows the injector’s hands-on experience with each gel. Volbella XC has one extra advantage, an approval for lines around the mouth, so a single syringe can serve two areas.
How long each filler lasts
As a class, the FDA puts hyaluronic acid fillers at roughly 6 to 12 months. 4Ever Young’s treatment pages give four months to a year for Juvederm and six months to over a year for Restylane, and both figures are consistent with the FDA’s. Two products stretch the ceiling. Voluma’s trial measured correction out to 24 months in the cheeks, and both under-eye products are labeled for up to 12 months.
Placement matters as much as product. Gel in the lips metabolizes faster than gel resting on the cheekbone, and a smaller first treatment fades sooner than a full correction.
Let the area pick the gel
A 4Ever Young provider matches each product to the lips, cheeks or under-eye hollow at your consultation. Both families are in the room.
Book a ConsultationWho should choose Juvederm or Restylane
For Juvederm vs Restylane lips, start with the result you want and let the gel follow. Volbella XC gives you Juvederm lips and Kysse gives you Restylane lips. Juvederm lips vs other lip fillers goes deeper on the lip question.
Juvederm is the stronger match when:
- You want cheek volume with the longest published duration, which points to Voluma.
- You prefer the softer, plumper lip.
- One gel needs to treat both the under-eye hollow and lines around the mouth, which Volbella XC is approved for.
Restylane is the stronger match when:
- You want a lip that keeps its shape when you talk and smile.
- The under-eye hollow is the main concern and you want the product with the larger trial.
- You want a firm, structured lift in the cheeks or the back of the hands.
If you are choosing Juvederm or Restylane for several areas at once, expect a mix. A 4Ever Young provider will match each gel to its area.
Bottom line on hyaluronic acid fillers
Hyaluronic acid fillers earn their place because the material is already in you. Hyaluronic acid in skin binds water, which is why a cross-linked gel of it adds volume and hydration at once. Each family is one engineering answer to that material. Both families are available at every 4Ever Young center, and a consultation settles which gel goes where.

01How Long Does Juvederm Last?
How long does Juvederm last depends on the product and the area. The FDA puts hyaluronic acid fillers at roughly 6 to 12 months as a class, and 4Ever Young’s Juvederm page gives four months to a year. Voluma XC is the outlier: in its pivotal cheek study nearly half of patients held their correction for 24 months. Under the eyes, Volbella XC is labeled for up to 12 months.
02Which Filler Is Better for Lips?
In the Juvederm vs Restylane lip debate, Restylane Kysse is better when you want definition at the lip border with less gel. In its FDA trial it matched a comparator for fullness at week 8 using about 20 percent less product. Volbella XC from Juvederm is better when you want a softer, fuller lip that blends into the tissue. Both carry lidocaine, both are FDA approved for lips in adults over 21, and both are offered at 4Ever Young.
03Can Hyaluronic Acid Filler Be Dissolved?
Yes. Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid, and reversing hyaluronic acid dermal fillers is one of its recognized clinical uses. Providers use it to correct overfilling, to remove gel that has migrated and, urgently, to treat a blocked blood vessel. Sculptra and Radiesse cannot be dissolved this way, which is one reason 4Ever Young providers start many patients with a hyaluronic acid gel.
